What is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder or more commonly known just as autism is a developmental disorder that is caused by abnormalities in the brains function or structure and can vary drastically in the severity of symptoms. Autism usually appears in people during their first three years out of their mothers womb and usually develops in the womb of the mother. Additionally, boys are 4 times as likely to have autism than girls and the amount of people with autism has been steadily increasing over the past decades.Children with autism could have symptoms since birth or they could spontaneously  start showing symptom at the age of three. These symptoms include behavioral disturbances, delay in learning to speak, abnormal body posturing and facial expressions, and poor or no eye contact while speaking. While there are more symptoms that can appear these are the main ones that can appear design the first 3 years of life. Autism has no cure as of now but symptoms are know to decrease in severity as the person gets older. However, people with autism can live a perfectly normal life in comparison to regular kids, as they’ll just have more hurdles to cross in making friends and communicating with people effectively which could hinder them in other aspects of life. In the contrast, people with autism have a unusually low life expectancy compared to the general population, studies show that people with autism have a life expectancy of around 54 years, but if they other cognitive disabilities it is shown to be less than 40, whereas normal healthy people have a life expectancy of around 75. Finally, people have been trying to frame vaccines, specifically the MMR vaccine, as a culprit in the cause of autism in infants with faulty evidence which has led to more people overall being infected and killed by infectious diseases, such as Measles which infected over a thousand people in 2019, that are easily prevented by vaccines.
